The Santa Clara Valley of northern California is more popularly known as Silicon Valley. The IEEE Santa Clara Valley (SCV) Section encompasses Silicon Valley and much more. SCV is the largest IEEE Section in the world.
Geographically, the Section takes in all the peninsula cities south of Highway 92, plus the counties of Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz.
Major universities in the area include Stanford, Santa Clara University, San Jose State, UC Santa Cruz, and the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey. Major employers of engineers include the who's who of high technology. The Valley has the greatest concentration of technology-based companies found anywhere on the globe.
